Music and its formulations occupy all the spaces that isn’t created by man. It touches me deeply and fundamentally in my heart, but also appeals to my mind. It transports me taking me on a journey to a destination I will forever fall in love with.
Sound systems such as, Sky Rocket, Metro Downbeat, Fugitive, Prince Ruddy, Admiral Ken, Chicken, Jah Shaka, Sir George, Serge, Emperor, Jah Tubby. Dj’s such as Steve Barnard Greg Edwards Tony Blackburn David Rodigan, Froggy, Derek Boland, Rappattack Norman J, Clubs such as Crackers, Global Village Charlie Browns, Lyceum, Cubies, Four Aces, All nations, Club Noreik, so many more to name, gave me a loving relationship with music embracing the understanding of its depths and power.
I and many likeminded people endeavoured to experience music’s imaginative realm travelling far and wide encountering countless differentiated experiences. Some experiences were good some bad some happy some sad I experienced them all on the road to accumulating musical knowledge.
Racism from National Front supporters spitting racial hate, interrogation from SPG (Special Police Group) as it was known then, even our own culture looked upon us as Soul boys, But music gave us courage and upon reaching our destination music encouraged all nationalities communities cultures religions colours and genders to set aside our differences, and simply dance to the joys of life and living.
If there were words for every emotion there would be no need for music. Today, for me music continues to be ageless making me smile. It excites and embraces me, making me want to dance. A simple song from yester year can bring back so many memories and full relief changing my mood within minutes or instantaneously to experience a better more fulfilling means to a day or life.
If you can relate to the above and whatever the reason you listen to music, I hope it makes your heart sing.
